Entered my first proper studio in 2000 to record a 4-song EP with with The Wax Dolls. Following the older siblings departure to college, the remainder of the band regrouped as PipSqeak. As the sole male in that riot girl project, I enjoyed learning to write and play more restrained and sophisticated parts for the shifted tone and leadership in the band. After PipSqueak recorded the EP Prom Queen; the song Alone at the Rock Show got my first radio play on Tulsas Z104.5, and we even shot a (unreleased) video with then-student Tulsa videographer/journalist Paul Taggert. I have found the last few years very rewarding as students become musicians. Since my first student I taught in 2004, through the days I taught at a music school, up right on to the present moment, I love passing the music onward as it was passed to me. Being a multi generational musician, it's important to me to teach this great artform and pass it down through generations. I also like to let my students know that "music lasts a lifetime." I believe a strong working knowledge of rudiments is fundamental to establishing good hand technique. I create arrangements combining rudiments to promote memorization and musicality. In addition, I teach four way coordination exercises, to develop bass drum consistency and promote general coordination skills. Students will also be introduced to different types of drum fills that progress into more challenging combinations using both hands and feet. I joined the school band in 5th grade, but soon quit, as I was distracted in school and it was a little too academic.
