I firmly believe that, as a professional musician, it is obligatory to teach and pass on the knowledge of your craft to others who are seeking the knowledge. I have been a full time performing artist my entire working adult life (since 1995). I have traveled the world performing with artists in the worlds of Jazz, Afro-Cuban, Rock, and even EDM. I’m one of the lucky few who have been able to support a family as a professional working musician. Read More

I use many different methods but most importantly I tailor the lesson to fit the student's needs. I like to write out lessons, but I generally start my students off using Benny Greb's "The Language of Drumming." I like to teach the student how to play the instrument as if it were a language, in the form of an alphabet. It's a great method in building a strong foundation with the instrument. Read More

For beginning students, I usually work with Hal Leonard's essential elements as well as use the piano as a tool for them to hear the pitches they are playing. Once the fundamentals are grasped we can work on introductory solo repertoire. For children I'd like to make this a bit more fun as well, introducing some easy tunes they will be familiar with or excited to play. (for example, Jason Derulo's song "Trumpets") For adults, I think its best to find out what their interests are and we can target what to work on from there. Read More

My teaching style adapts to the necessity, interest and pace of the students. If you are more interested in building a technique playing we can get very methodical studying from the books but if you really want to play, we are gonna play! A big part of my teaching is playing with the students or creating sequences (play alongs) so the student practices music in context. It could be frustrating and boring when technique is de-contextualized. Read More

I began teaching privately in Colombia and continued throughout my entire college experience. I've been a part of music schools for years, both as a student and faculty, and that experience has shown me that every student is different and as such the teaching must adapt. I have explored multiple avenues to connect with my students and firmly believe professors should be guides and mentors, more than fill the students with knowledge that they are later supposed to sort out themselves. I've been teaching drums for twelve years after spending my working life in the music business. I have worked in many facets of the music business including recording and touring. I have also worked as an A&R executive at a major record label. In my career, I have worked with Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Duran Duran, Bob Dylan and many more. That's why when a student enters my drum studio the walls are lined with gold and platinum record awards which give it a professional and musical atmosphere. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
