I have a varied teaching background with 11 years experience teaching various subjects at a professional level. I have instructed students aged 6-70+ during this time. Subjects taught include expert level map, compass and gps courses, basic outdoor and nature courses as well as outdoor safety sections. I approach teaching music using the same principles that I apply to other subjects that I teach. One of the cool things about teaching is that every student is different and learns differently! I am usually able to assess each students level and pace within the first couple lessons. At the end of each lesson I will give them a realistic goal to achieve for the next lesson. Any improvement is improvement and I try and always recognize that. For beginners, I have a special system that implements coordination while utilizing proper counting technique. As their understanding of their limbs grows the more I begin to welcome actual musical notation. This system has proven time and time again to tackle the initial issue that coordination imposes. In intermediate to advanced students I stress the importance of technique, quality of sound, coordination, visualization, and relaxation/movement.
