Over the years I have larned invaluable lessons about drum kit instruction. Teaching many different students with many different personalities, lesson needs, practice habits, and so on has led me to develop a flexability in my teaching that allows the individual student to get the most from each lesson. I encourage my students to push their musical boundaries and reach beyond what they belive they are capable of. I have found that at the end of the sometimes frustrating road to achievement lies the feeling of success that propels learning. Read More

Hi everyone! I have been involved in performing and recording music my entire life, primarily as drummer and percussionist, but also as composer/ songwriter/ multi-instrumentalist. After eighteen years as director of the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble, I am devoting myself full time to music creation and private music instruction. While I have extensive experience teaching music to individuals with disabilities, and won awards for my success in doing so, I have taught many others along the way, from children to adults. When teaching drums or percussion to a beginner, I always start with basic stick-control and technique. I have numerous methods for progression but after some time, I always let the student's interests and goals lead the way. I have multiple snare drum/drum set method books that range from elementary to advanced skills to achieve growth. I'm also a firm believer in being able to play by ear (and reading). Read More

I set goals for my students to achieve and once the basics have been mastered I open it up for them to decide. IF they want to be a performer I will work with them toward being a great performer. If they want to be a better technical player we will work on mastering techniques and continually challenging them, if they want to write their own parts we will work that way. Read More

Lessons incorporate instruction in reading music, hand development, coordination, listening, and interpretation of various different musical styles. I make it a point to get to know each of my students as individual people, and am sincerely interested in each of them AS A WHOLE PERSON. Over the years, I have made it a point to stay in touch with many of my former students. I LOVE to hear about all of the great things that my former students are doing, ESPECIALLY all of their musical endeavors! Read More
