Principles and structure. This is the only way to learn. When you build a house, you spend more money in setting the foundation. This is my tactic. Every one wants to learn to play efficiently, but this takes time and qualatative effort. Rudiments and drills will be every students daily practice. My goal isn't to teach music. My goal is to help my students grow to love music more, and teaching them music is just the means to that end. For beginner students, I like to teach them the fundamental beats, rudiments, fills, and styles of playing the drums, and then apply that to their favorite song. For intermediate students, I like to build off of the basics and add in the more advanced concepts that apply to the type of music they want to learn.
