For beginning students, I like to start from the very beginning, breaking down the fundamentals of how to hold the stick/mallet. Once the student has grasped how to hold and move the sticks/ mallets appropriately, we would then move on to some basic rudiments or permutations. After the student has figured out rudiments and rhythms, I would then move them to their respective instrument, and we would begin the basics on this instrument (Scales for Mallets, rolls and stroke types on snare drum, basic grooves on drumset), and the student can grow from there. My teaching career began in college. I taught trombone lessons and was an instructor for the Hampton University Band Camp. In 2009 I became a graduate assistant at Central Michigan University. I also taught at an elementary school while I was in graduate school. After college I moved to North Carolina and became a band director on the middle school and high school level. My strongest skill is composition and arranging. My works have been played on the middle school, high school, collegiate, and professional level. Hi everyone! I have been involved in performing and recording music my entire life, primarily as drummer and percussionist, but also as composer/ songwriter/ multi-instrumentalist. After eighteen years as director of the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble, I am devoting myself full time to music creation and private music instruction. While I have extensive experience teaching music to individuals with disabilities, and won awards for my success in doing so, I have taught many others along the way, from children to adults. I began my first tour as a drummer when I was only 13 years old. Since then, I have gone on to tour with many bands. I am the writer and drummer for symphonic metal act Rapheumets Well. I can teach music theory, instrument blending, drumming, novice guitar, bass, as well as piano. I can teach the student how to play from building a deep principles in mechanics.
