Every one of my students begins with a combination of pad work and time behind the set. The first thing I establish is technique as it is the foundation to moving around the set and becoming comfortable. My aim is to have fun, so the first short term goal is to be able to play the fundamental drum beat! We later add more and build upon it. I have lead others and taught them before ever having my own classroom as a leader in High School and College. It has greatly pleased me that my students have had many accomplishments in many groups. These vary from various Honors Bands, the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra, and many High Valued Scholarships. I want the student to have fun and enjoy the lesson but I also want to push the student to reach their goals. Goal setting is a very important process of any lesson.
