In 4th grade I got a recorder and from then on I've soaked up all the music experiences around me. I fondly remember my first solo performance was 5th grade, and my first honor band was that summer. By my senior year of high school I had been involved in a couple dozen honor bands/choirs/orchestras including an amazing tour of Europe in a 200 person band! For beginning guitar or ukulele students I will usually begin by teaching them to play a familiar song using only a couple chords. This gives them something tangible to work toward right from the beginning. My teaching experience began in high school as a teachers assistant for a percussion ensemble class as well as helping with an after school percussion/hand drums club. I'm currently in a metal band, based in Portland, that tours every year. I also work as a session drummer for touring bands. The largest show I've ever performed was in front of 80,000 people at Wacken Open Air in Germany.
