I started out at the age of nine playing the trumpet, and continued this for two years before switching to piano. Ultimately, I found my love in playing the guitar, and took lessons for two years. As time went on, I advanced as a guitarist and actually expanded into new musical instruments. I began playing in local rock and r&b bands at the age of 15. These were some of my most influential experiences, as they expanded my musical tastes into jazz fusion, swing, standards and Latin Jazz. After graduating high school, I attended community college and then went to New York to study jazz theory, where I played a few sets with Sweetback in 2000 that led up to being asked to play with the band. I am deeply inspired by students who are eager and motivated to learn drumming. I meet each student where they are, looking and listening for the unique learning style of each student. After i access what approaches work best based on their ability level, I design a systematic practice routine based on Technique, Vocabulary, Independence, Coordination, and Musicality. If its required I can assist in writing charts for songs. Im focused on targeting the areas where improvement is needed and to encourage and challenge students to develop discipline, good habits, while striving to improve and overcome the weakness aspects of their drumming. My teaching method goes beyond just technique; it's about unlocking the inherent creativity and therapeutic potential within each student. I believe the drums can be a powerful tool for self-expression and personal growth, and I encourage my students to explore this aspect of their musical journey. While I guide them through a comprehensive curriculum covering diverse styles like rock, blues, jazz, and funk, my emphasis is on fostering a deep connection with the instrument. Read More

I began my teaching journey at my local church and later expanded to formal private lessons at home. One of the key challenges I faced was teaching piano to children as young as five years old. However, seeing how quickly they could assimilate music at such an early age has been incredibly rewarding. I emphasize the importance of regular practice for all students, especially younger ones, as perseverance and patience are essential values in developing strong piano skills and becoming accomplished musicians. For beginning students: young teens , children, adults, I start them off with them just playing something whether it be a beat from a song theyve listened to and want to play. From there, I begin to introduce them to the fundamentals of time and hearing that goes into playing any kind of instrument and there can grasp those 2 keys to progress in paying drums. And for those students. I try to find out what theyre interested in. Read More
