I am not strict in one specific style. I try to be malleable in my approach as I get to know the habits and abilities of each individual. I've had students for whom I thought it best to be more rigid and repetitive drill based, while others seem to benefit from a more passive guru. It's a spectrum. Always, though, I try to control the pace of the session, to speak thoughtfully, honestly, and constructively whilst always maintaining the utmost respect for the struggles that a student is facing. I have a firm belief as a teacher that you can really enrich someones life through learning and challenge. As long as I can remember I have been surrounded by music. I have been playing drums for over 20 years since the age of nine, and have been playing guitar, keyboards, bass as well as singing for 10 years. I took my passion for music further by enrolling at Roosevelt University, Chicago College of Performing Arts and studied drum set under the direction of grammy award winning drummer Paul Wertico. I always start beginning students with proper technique. I believe that great technique is the foundation of a great musician. I use a few different method books including Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Stick Control for the Snare Drummer, Modern Rudimental Swing Solos, Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials among others. I also believe that all musicians, especially drummers should have a strong rhythmic foundation so I incorporate sight-reading, call and response, and ear training to build the young musicians' instincts. I always approach teaching music in a relaxed and fun way. With the right teacher, learning music greatly rewarding and enjoyable. My teaching style is always based around my students experience level, their goals, and learning style. I always start with activities that are within the student's abilities, and carefully progress through more challenging pieces and exercises. This way, the student will always have a challenge that is achievable, not too difficult that makes them want to quit, and not to easy that makes them bored. Read More

First the skill level of the student must be determined. Then the goals of what the student wishes to learn and wants to be capable of playing. Next we will set goals together and a time frame to achieve their goals. I will then develop a lesson plan based on what the student wants to achieve with exercises and practice techniques to build the muscle memory and strength required to play. Read More

I first began teaching at the age of sixteen. I was hired to work at Berkshire Summer Music, a music camp for talented young children. I worked as a violin and viola instructor, teaching children of all ages, assisting with their technique and helped develop good practicing habits. Since then, I have worked at a variety of music camps, where I have taught bass, guitar, songwriting, and led a variety of ensembles. Read More

Nothing turned out well if it was rushed, and only diligent routines kept me on track. I stress that same lesson in my teaching. If a student wants to improve their playing, the only way forward is through practice. So, one of the best ways to improve drumming is by practicing how to practice. This technique can be used in every aspect of the student's life and is one of the most valuable skills anyone can have. Read More
