I began teaching private lessons in 2018 for double bass, electric bass, jazz theory, repertoire and improvisation. After graduating from Berklee I began teaching bass for the Hopkinton Music Association, a non-profit supporting music education in Hopkinton Public Schools. In 2023 I was hired as a music teacher for Note-worthy Experiences Music Studio and Karen Amlaw Music, where I taught bass, oboe, and English horn. For beginner students, I like to use the Faber books or the Thompson method for piano. I also encourage students of all ages to share what they enjoy listening to and incorporate songs they enjoy as early as possible. As students progress I get into more in depth concepts in music theory and improvisation, to provide a foundation in the language of contemporary music. For beginning students, I start with a method book that provides them with both aural, visual, and kinesthetic instruction. In addition, I work with my students to develop a curriculum that is high individualized and caters to their needs and, more importantly, their interests. For intermediate and advanced students, I focus on repertoire, etudes, and coordination studies, in order to build technique while learning the standard repertoire pieces. I like to start off teaching how to read very simple snare drum and drum set music. Basic snare drum rudiments like Flams and Paradiddles and basic rock beat drum patterns are a fun and engaging way to start learning. I use books as well as transcribe music myself to provide my students with a visual representation. Learning an istrument is an adventure so take your time and enjoy the journey.Remember it's not a race but a marathon. practicing daily and setting goals is highly recommended for a student to stay motivated and inspired. In my experience teaching for the past twelve years I have realized a few things including the fact that my methods work. I teach my students to read drum music well enough that most of the younger ones end up playing in the school band. I started teaching drums back when I was in High School, in France. Since then, I have had the chance to teach students from all ages and background. I love to adapt the different goals that different people can have. As long as my students are willing to have fun and open their ears, everything is achievable.
