I use a wide range of teaching materials for my lessons, and customize my lesson plans based on the skill level of the student, instrument of choice and areas of interest. I prefer a multi-faceted curriculum of method books, reading materials, listening assignments, stylistic studies, and live performance. This kind of balanced diet will help the student develop rudimental, technical, and reading ability, along with creativity and musicality. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Naturally everyone is different and will progress at their own pace, so I would guide my instruction according to their wants, needs, skill level and also challenge them to venture beyond their comfort zone in each lesson. Being familiar with music is key and this can be accomplished at any age. The more a student becomes familiar with music, the more connections and comparisons the student will be able to make between drummers in all kinds of settings and genres of music, which will then enhance the student's playing on the drum set. I started teaching at the age of 16 at three different music stores in the Detroit area. My students were often times older than me so I was forced to adapt fast and develop lesson plans that might not be "standard". My lessons focus on technique and musicality so the students can see their skill develop fast, and most of all they can have fun while learning due to my focus on musicality and focusing on the students favorite music to not only play but listen to. I enjoy sharing my musical knowledge to students so they will advance in their musical aims. In 1983, I attended The Guitar Institute of Technology and studied privately with Frank Gambale, who formalized the single line "sweep technique" on guitar. While in L.A. I also studied with Ed Mann, longtime Frank Zappa percussionist and teacher at Cal. Arts. In Boston, I became assistant to George Russell on the revision of his 1953 copyrighted and published book "The Lydian Chromatic Concept Of Tonal Organization" released in 2001. Read More

Hi, I am a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and have been teaching drums, piano, and percussion for over 12 years. I focus on the fundamentals of teaching students how to read music and the rudiments, but try to balance this with just playing and having fun. I want all of my students to have fun, and stay interested in playing and growing as a musician. Read More

I teach students how to play, as well as, read music. I teach a variety of techniques and styles of music using books and making up lessons for my students. I teach my students at any age how to play the set, along with snare drum techniques, and play with songs. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Vic Firth books. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce more complicated styles and techniques that are appropriate for their ability. Read More
