I started teaching drums in San Francisco in 1995. I teach all levels from beginner to professional in all styles including double bass drums. My specialty is jazz which includes boogie woogie, swing, big band, bebop, cool jazz, avant garde, fusion, afro-cuban, and salsa. It's important to me that private lessons incorporate dialogue as much as possible. A student's feedback and questions are invaluable when deciding how to proceed. Rather than handing the student new materials from week to week without regard for their personal needs, I prefer to really dig in and figure out what their specific barriers to improvement are. I believe that the best way to do that is open communication, and I try to encourage that by conveying my excitement for music and learning at every lesson. Read More

My method varies for each student since every student will learn differently. I start by assessing where a student is at in terms of skill level and what their intentions are for learning how to play drums/percussion. After that, I'll begin to teach fundamentals and stylistic things to get them going. Read More
