As a foundation, I start my beginner-level students with basic the basic understanding of rhythm patterns, dynamic control, and basic limb independence. I use Benny Greb's "The Language of Drumming" as it has proven to be a fun and effective learning tool for well over a decade. From there it's really dependent on the student and their learning style/pace. I try to never create a particular "method" that doesn't allow for the student's uniqueness to be taken into consideration. Read More

I have taught kids from ages 9 to fourteen, and am open to teaching anyone of any skill level. I also offer lessons in composition and recording/engineering music production. I encourage regular practice and make sure, especially for kids, that they leave every lesson with something new. I focus on learning how to be a successful musician all around, emphasizing on good technique, performance, and each student's individual sound. I work with students toward their own goals, no matter how big or small. Read More

I am a strong believer that students should learn how to read music, they should learn proper technique, and that they should maintain a regular practice schedule. Lessons are geared towards the individual student's abilities and interests. I draw from a wide variety of teaching resources and authors, such as Joel Rothman, Jim Chapin, Rick Latham, Frank Briggs, Carmine Appice, George Stone, Charlie Wilcoxen, David Garibaldi, Rick Dior, Les DeMerle. My teaching experience dates back to my freshman year of college in 2013. I began teaching snare drum and drum set to one private student. As time went on through my undergraduate studies, I had a studio of twenty lessons students. Coupled with private lessons, I gained experience teaching high school percussion ensembles and I was a percussion instructor for marching bands. In my graduate studies, I had the amazing opportunity to teach collegiate level percussion ensembles and private lessons. Read More

Music is, and should be fun! It is also hard work, but when done right, these two go hand in hand. No one should leave a lesson feeling discouraged, personally or musically. This is why I work hard to understand what each individual student's goals are, and quickly assess how he or she may achieve those goals. Additionally, not every student learns the same way, and I strive to ascertain and respond to each individual's needs. Read More

I use a variety of standard drum method books such as "Stick Control" by George Lawerence. I also DVD's and other multi media for lessons. Read More

In college have had the opportunity to work as a music instructor to a studio with over 20 students on a weekly basis. The students ranged in age from 5 to 70. This gave me a good perspective on how to directly connect with each student to ensure that we are exploring the best concept of learning for the individual. Drum set lessons are always more groove oriented first and I do encourage becoming comfortable learning from an aural perspective before tackling reading music and understanding theory. Read More
