We are all lovers of music in one way or another. It's my thought to help students develop a love of learning the art of playing an instrument and being connected to the music in such a direct way. I'm very patient with a students challenges and always encourage them to never give up. I always want to stress that each one of our voices matter when creating music. My teaching style is also about having multi media available for the student to either, see, hear and experience different forms of music in our lessons. Read More

Throughout the years, starting back in college, I have had many wonderful performance opportunities. I have performed in Carnegie Hall in 2011 and 2012 with the LIU Post Wind Symphony and the LIU Post Chorus. I have also taken my performance from the classical world to the modern era being involved in the DCA Drum and Bugle Corps, The Long Island Sunrises in 2013, and the WGI Indoor Percussion Ensemble called Rage in 2006 and 2012. While I have no degrees in music education, I believe, that my experiences as a professional musician have equipped me with the necessary tools to be a great teacher for any age or skill level. Being classically trained, I believe that a foundation in formal, classical piano is a great tool to not only teach technical proficiency, but also to instill an excitement and curiosity about music, and just how much it can make you feel. A strong foundation is key to becoming a good drummer. I also encourage students to play many styles of music. The more well rounded that you aremakes you a better player with the music of your choice. It's always rewarding to have astudent make it into All-County band. Many students start their own rock bands. To me it doesn't matter what style of music they like, as long as they enjoy playing. I like my students to have fun and at the same time to see progress. Any small or big achievement can be very important for the student, such as completing a new song or a new exercise. Every small step further is important because it's a reward that makes their passion for music grow. Read More

We start by doing proper warm up exercises followed by learning or practicing rudiments. We work on our grip of the sticks and our movements while drumming. In other words, I teach economy of movement for maximum energy. If a student is flailing their arms, we talk about a more fluid movement by utilizing the wrists and incorporating finger control. Then we move on to reading out of instructional books which is then followed by practical application on the drum sets. With a beginner student I find Basix Syncopation for Drums by Alfred Publishing to be a very effective tool. For beginners I usually start them off with two books, Stick Control and Funky Primer. I then pair what they learn from those with real world examples and try to incorporate that into songs that they want to play. For more intermediate students we focus more on developing their musical vocabulary and all around versatility. We go more in depth on rudiments and using them around the kit. We also start covering music industry fundamentals and the skills they need to market themselves as a musician and how to put together or find a band to start gigging with! Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
