I am a creative and encouraging instructor who loves helping students discover their own abilities. I have been playing drums for over 13 years, and have been in numerous projects in a range of genres in recent years, even including some contributions to a film score. Growing up in a family of musicians and teachers, a love for music and music education is baked into my heart. My first student in 2002 was 13 years old. Ever since then I’ve taught students ranging in age from 10 to 43. Most of the students studied drum kit with several showing interest in hand drums. The styles I’ve taught included Rock, Funk, Latin, Jazz, and Reggae. I always encourage my students to explore other styles of music. I can make my lessons fun for all levels of players, and my students will see their skills develop quickly in the direction that THEY want to go. If a student is unsure where they see themselves going as a musician, that is perfectly ok too! When my students have yet to develop a library of music they like and don't have a sense of what they want to play I help them figure these things out which is extremely rewarding for the both of us. In 4th grade I got a recorder and from then on I've soaked up all the music experiences around me. I fondly remember my first solo performance was 5th grade, and my first honor band was that summer. By my senior year of high school I had been involved in a couple dozen honor bands/choirs/orchestras including an amazing tour of Europe in a 200 person band! I have studied piano privately for almost 10 years. My first experience teaching piano was in high-school, when I taught after school lessons. Since then I've had the opportunity to absorb the teaching methods of many excellent instructors. My teaching approach continues to be influenced by these teachers.
