I began teaching about three years ago. I mostly have taught younger students, and I love to watch them learn and develop a passion for music. I like to look for fun ways to keep students motivated. I like to use lots of humor while I teach because I think learning should be fun, and music is an amazing art. I work with people of all ages on my worship team, and I love helping both people young and old continue to grow their knowledge and love of music. Read More

I place equal emphasis on technical practice, theory, creativity, and musicality. Practice assignments for each week are clear and simple, yet challenging. They usually consist of a few exercises to practice everyday as well as a musical task such as a song to learn, a musician to listen to, or creating your own beat or fill. Read More

Not only do I teach students how to play or create music, but also how to successfully set goals and achieve them. Every musician should have a goal in mind when practicing. Learning how to manage that goal can be tricky. I like to work together with students to take their goals and break them down smaller into more manageable pieces for them to master. This means that every student's schedule is customized to their learning. Read More

As much as possible, I usually try to make custom lesson plans for each student. For beginning guitar or ukulele students I will usually begin by teaching them to play a familiar song using only a couple chords. This gives them something tangible to work toward right from the beginning. We can then add more chords and more challenging songs as we go, as well as learning to play scales and melodies, etc. Read More

I adapt my teaching style to the unique needs of each individual student. If a student needs to go at a particular pace in order to truly master a concept, I will never rush them through it in order to meet any deadline. I want to make sure each student has an extremely solid foundation in their fundamental technique so that they can expand their capabilities. I emphasize listening abilities in addition to sheet music reading because I believe a good musician needs to have both skills. Read More

The approach I use to advance student learning is fun and laid back - yet direct and studious. I believe in the power of mentoring students and adults. Every student is different and has their own way of learning and growing, even as we get older. There is always room for improvement. At your first lesson we can talk about what makes sense in terms of practice week to week and will continue to see what it takes as time goes on. Read More
