For younger students with no sight reading experience, I will typically start of with Ted Reed's book Syncopation. This book starts the student off with a very basic music notation vocabulary. This vocabulary is often quickly absorbed so that the student may proceed to more complicated musical words or phrases. You will be instructed on the importance of warming up, and how to create a personalized warm up routine, you will gain knowledge of rudiments and other various drumming exercises, sight reading, and most importantly proper technique. I also grew up with private piano lessons, and continued band and show choir throughout high school.  Before my career with the Marine Corps Band, I also performed professionally around northern Ohio as a keyboardist and drummer in Top 40 and Rock bands for 3 years.
