My starting point for my students is typically having them practice posture, hand position and proper mouthpiece placement. After this has been satisfied, I have the students blow using a breathing exercise. From this, I have the students play the first three notes out of their Habits of Good Musician Book 1. Students will continue in the book and proceed to their daily lesson exercises until they are ready to play other higher level music pieces. Read More

my teaching experience is admittedly small, I've been giving lessons part-time for about a year now. the only way I will learn to become a more effective teacher is through real world experience. although my experience is low, I am confident I can help you or your child become a better musician. I've been playing long enough to know what works and what doesn't. My passion to elevate my craft has led me down paths of learning that few people travel. my excitement and love for my instrument results in a level of professionalism that will garner the results we seek. I teach beginner to beginning intermediate drum students. The student will learn some of the most popular rock beats and rhythms and practical sticking techniques in the course. They will develop the "weak" hand and foot, limb independence coordination, and rudimentary skills. I teach a student to be completely independent on the kit by teaching them how to set-up and tune themselves. The first lesson will cover basic notation, as it applies to the drum kit, as well as a satisfactory play of a simple groove utilizing quarters and eighth notes. Read More

I've had great teaching experiences since I've been teaching. I teach students the basics and then work on their own music. This keeps the student interested, keeping them wanting to practice. I believe practice is the key to success. I also teach music reading which helps the student to learn how to see music on the page. I have three steps to success. 1) drum rudiments, we focus on the rudiments which gives the student a better understanding on how to play the drums. 2) I focus on reading which give the student more confidence when playing 3) I focus on ear training which helps the student to play music that is heard while giving the student a better understanding on how to play with a group Read More
Instruments: Drums Mallet Percussion Orchestral Percussion
I start my beginning students off with learning to read music notation simply from a rudiment sheet and moving into a cd play a long book with basic drum rhythms and song structure. For intermediate to advance students, I typically start with Stick Control for the snare drummer by George Stone. For basic drum set we start with "The Rhythm Book" covering all drum set styles. If the student is interested in a specific genre and style of playing, we tend to travel down that road of goals they have set for themselves. Read More
