Lessons incorporate instruction in reading music, hand development, coordination, listening, and interpretation of various different musical styles. I make it a point to get to know each of my students as individual people, and am sincerely interested in each of them AS A WHOLE PERSON. Over the years, I have made it a point to stay in touch with many of my former students. I LOVE to hear about all of the great things that my former students are doing, ESPECIALLY all of their musical endeavors! Read More

When teaching drums or percussion to a beginner, I always start with basic stick-control and technique. I have numerous methods for progression but after some time, I always let the student's interests and goals lead the way. I have multiple snare drum/drum set method books that range from elementary to advanced skills to achieve growth. I'm also a firm believer in being able to play by ear (and reading). Read More

My teaching experience dates back to Ukraine, as I began teaching private lessons part time 11 years ago. Since moving to North Carolina I've been teaching in different schools as well as private lessons. I still teach a student who has been with me for 8 years ! My goal is to help students to find their own path in the musical journey. Once you find it you will enjoy practicing, listening, playing and performing the music for the rest of your life ! My teaching style is adaptive to each individual student's strenghts and weaknesses. I create lesson plans based off of skill level and learning type.Everyone learns at their own pace, and I make sure to cater to those individual needs.I am an educator who strongly believes in the power of music education, and how it relates to other aspects of life. I believe a fun environment is the first step in education, and through the proper balance of hard work and fun the students goals will be met. Read More

My teaching experience has been for as long as I've been playing. Before studying any particular type of pedagogical approach, I've always had the gift and desire to share what I know with others. Formalized study has simply given me specific nomenclature for things. Having said that, my pedagogical approach is simple...discern how the student learns and give them the information clearly in that fashion. There are some people who are very literal and need specific details, whereas there are some who work well with general instruction and prefer to feel things out viscerally. Read More

In college have had the opportunity to work as a music instructor to a studio with over 20 students on a weekly basis. The students ranged in age from 5 to 70. This gave me a good perspective on how to directly connect with each student to ensure that we are exploring the best concept of learning for the individual. Drum set lessons are always more groove oriented first and I do encourage becoming comfortable learning from an aural perspective before tackling reading music and understanding theory. Read More

I essential teach intermediate students only, giving my current experience. I usually start with the basics and start to get to know where the student is at first. Then I would go ahead and just hit a drum book with basic rhythms and start to go through it and try to create exercises from it. I have my own philosophies too, being taught by world class marchers, from whom I have obtained those philosophies from. Read More
