Teaching, for me, began when I was in high school; I taught summer drumset lessons at McQuaid Jesuit and taught Karate at Martial Arts America. This desire to teach was incorporated with my love of music...leading me to pursue a degree in Music Education. I began performing and competing in fourth grade, which continued into my college years. In my third year of undergraduate work, these elements of music led me as well as three of my percussion buddies to performances and clinics (that we taught) at the New York State School Music Association and the New York State Band Director's Association conventions. I tailor my lesson plans to fit each student's individual learning style and situation, and I prioritize the student's desires in what they want to learn or need help with first over anything else. I believe that it is possible to learn in a way that is enjoyable for everyone involved, and I also always ensure that the student has enough time at the end of each session to practice the material on their own so that they leave the lesson more confident than before. I started teaching a year ago with mainly students who were beginners or advanced beginners! It was definitely a challenge at first due to the fact I was never taught how to teach. So I did my research and found different strategies on how to teach and after that it became very simple! As time went on, I discovered that my approach was very aggressive and unclear! Especially with the very young ones. Read More

My passion is music and spreading that joy to others. Each student is different and special. I find ways to tap into the potential of all students (of any age), and assist them in goal setting, using music as a tool in many ways, and building the confidence to continue adding music- performance or not- into their lives. I took a very non-traditional path into music as a career, but I love guiding others in their musical pursuits from a viewpoint of someone who made missteps along my journey, and strive to be the best musician and teacher I can be.
