My goal as a teacher is to share my knowledge and enthusiasm for music and the clarinet with my students. I prioritize creating a strong “toolkit” of fundamental skills that we can use for all of the music we perform. Beyond teaching these fundamental skills, I find it important to introduce my students to historical and modern repertoire, clarinet and music history, audition and performance strategies, and other important musical skills. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing my students develop a passion and love for music! Nothing makes me happier than seeing/hearing a student play something perfectly that they were struggling with! Acknowledging accomplishments and small moments of success is what fuels students to want to progress and build their skills. Since all students progress at different paces, I emphasize the fact that any progress is progress! Read More

What makes a good clarinetist is not just someone with excellent technique and breath control. I strive to teach my clients to attain not just those skills, but most importantly to use their playing to connect with the audience, tell a story, and change lives. My lesson plan ensures that my clients build a strong foundation in their clarinet embouchure, tone, technical skills, and musicality. I love to encourage my students and to push them to become successful musicians. Read More

For beginning students, I find that the simpler the methods, the better. Essential Elements is a great series for beginners, and is a good way to teach basic music theory and musical ideas. As students progress, I like to introduce solo repertoire and books that are more specific to the instrument that they are learning. I also like to find out what music the student enjoys listening to, or has a desire to play, and start to add songs in that style to their list of practice pieces. Read More
