This typically takes the form of a beginning method book. For students beyond this phase of study, advanced technique work takes the form of scale, chord, and interval studies. Great music lessons are a mix of solid technique building and fun application of those skills. I always spend the first few lessons getting the student familiar with the basic technique of the instrument, and then quickly move on to duets, improvising, sight reading, solos, etc. that tie in with the current technique studies. I believe that the first thing you have to have is a good fundamental foundation. I always start with breathing correctly and assembling the instrument before playing notes. The core concepts I teach in the beginning are tone, dexterity, and tonguing. As for specific exercises, no two students are the same. I'm a clarinet instructor who is excited to share his passion with his students. In 2014, I graduated from University of Southern Maine, where I studied clarinet with Tom Parchman, with a degree in Music Education. In 2017, I graduated from University fo Delaware with a dual Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance and Composition, where I studied clarinet with Chris Nichols. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I graduated from Temple University in 1988, with a Master's of Music degree in the area of Percussion Performance, and Jazz emphasis. During my career at Temple I had the opportunity play with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and at various venues including in New York at Carnegie Hall, as an example.
