For my beginning piano students, I emphasize the twelve major and minor scales with proper fingering, first one octave and then two octaves. These exercises strengthens fingers and create more familiarity with the keyboard. I use the book, Level 1 The Older Beginner Piano Course by James Bastien and the companion book, Musicianship for the Older Beginner. I have seen results when these books are used in tandem. The student increases in technique and start to master music theory simultaneously. Read More

In my opinion, I believe in the four "T" s. The student must generate a robust tone, that's their signature. Then comes technique, fluid technique is vital. Thirdly, is good sense of time, you can't perform without it. Lastly is taste, a student must acquire an acute sense of musical taste. These four principals are essential for all levels of music performance. Once a good foundation is established, the student will have the tools he needs to take on any musical challenge. Read More

I am an energetic woodwind multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator born and raised in Philadelphia, always open to musical opportunities regardless of the style. Since graduating from Temple University Boyer College of Music in 2021, I've been hard at work leading my solo fusion jazz project, GPS (Gabe Preston Sounds), with our debut album [to the stratosphere] currently available on all streaming platforms. In addition, I am consistently performing with a wide variety of other up-and-coming bands and projects in the area: Mobbluz (a boom-bap hip-hop jazz band), Stella Ruze (Americana folk-rock), You Do You (cosmic funk rock), Hodgepodge (Persian punk-funk rock), Borbs (an avant-garde collective led by Aaron Pond), and more! I believe that the first thing you have to have is a good fundamental foundation. I always start with breathing correctly and assembling the instrument before playing notes. The core concepts I teach in the beginning are tone, dexterity, and tonguing. As for specific exercises, no two students are the same. I assign or create exercises based on the specific student's needs as a player. Read More

I believe in focusing on important fundamentals in music to allow the student to achieve whatever they wish. I focus on tone, technique, and musicality for all levels to then apply these skills. I have many method books for students if they prefer to learn that way, but I can also assign tailored exercises to cater the needs of each individual student. I am here to help the student play whatever type of music they want! Read More
