Music provides students a means to express themselves through a non-typical medium, to unlock the creativity that lies within the confines of their imaginations, to develop coordination that is crucial to human development, and to contribute artistic beauty to the world that is their own musical voice and identity. Students need to master critical skills in order to lead a successful and productive life. The ability to read, write, comprehend, evaluate, analyze, process, critique, lead, follow, and make smart judgment calls are all skills that are developed within the music classroom. Read More

I never imagined God had plans for me to be a music teacher. I had taken piano lessons for about 15 years (later adding recorder, guitar, violin, clarinet, saxophone, and cello) and was working as a front desk receptionist in a music school when a teacher notified us of an unexpected long-term absence. My boss--who had known me for almost 20 years, and who taught me piano-- approached me and said she would like ME to teach the affected students. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my high school years, 8 years ago, when I was a section leader for my marching band and I got to teach marching routines and lead sectionals for my section. Later, at my undergraduate degree, I got hired at three different middle and high schools to teach private lessons and give master classes. Since leaving Texas and moving to Chicago, I haven’t been able to teach due to my busy school schedule, but I am very excited to start up my studio again with Musika! Read More

I’ve enjoyed teaching the clarinet since I first decided to get serious about music in high school. I got my start by offering lessons to younger students in my neighborhood and the surrounding towns in the western suburbs of Chicago. During my undergraduate years in Greencastle, IN, I took several clarinet pedagogy classes and began teaching local students in the DePauw University Preparatory Program. In my junior year, I entered a 2-year apprenticeship with the Chicago-based Fifth House Ensemble where I worked with community partners to engage students in classical music performances and appreciation. As a first step, I will focus on students to get good fundamental skills as much as we can. It is alway important for all of students to bring next level. So, I will use some etudes and scale books published in the lesson, and teach some my original practice methods. I usually suggest the repertoire students should learn but I am always flexible to teach what students want to learn so that students do not feel being forced to learn music. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
My method of teaching is based in the standard pedagogy of scales and chords(arpeggios). Those who are beginner and intermediate I usually start with the Rubank series of method books as well as easy to play popular tunes. For those who are at the advanced level I would teach out of the Baermann method book in addition to the Rose studies as well as Kroepsch, Jean-Jean, and Rode. We could also try working on any of the clarinet concertos and sonatas. Read More
