I'm a composer and musician based in NYC who loves to share my passion for the arts with others. I graduated from the College of William and Mary with a double major in music and physics. During my studies there, I played clarinet in the music department. Additionally, I played both clarinet and alto saxophone in the theater department. During my master's degree at the University of Chicago, I played clarinet in the university symphony orchestra. Read More

Every student develops at their own pace, and I am dedicated to creating a curriculum for every one. I like to break down lessons into three sections. The methods used vary based on the current level of the student. 1. Scales/Fundamentals/Long Tones: Scales are the focal point of Western Music. We will gain the skills of learning and memorizing scales to establish the proper fundamentals.I will teach the student several ways of practicing Long Tones in order to develop their clarinet tone. 2. Over the course of many years, I've developed a method for beginning piano and woodwind students which yields excellent results. For the first series of lessons, I want the student to become comfortable in understanding the keyboard or the wind instrument, avoiding the secondary interface of sight reading. There are about twenty short, simple, basic songs I have the student master. At this point, not only are we working on understand the harmonic and melodic "hardware" of the keyboard or horn, but we are developing proper technique in terms of hand position, posture and sound as well as a natural rhythmic feel. I strive to maintain a fun stress free environment in my lessons. I want my students to feel comfortable making mistakes because with each mistake is an opportunity to learn a new concept or fix an underlying problem. I also encourage students to suggest material to be played or worked on during lessons. I've found that if my students are working on music that they choose to play, they have more motivation and it's more fun. Read More

My teaching experience goes all the way back to my senior year of high school teaching not only my students at the Chatham school of rock but also my peers in high school as well as college. My philosophy is simple, music is taught best through experience. Technique books, and etudes have their place for the basics but I believe there is no substitute for putting on a backing track and getting to playing. Read More

My creative apporach to teaching is shaped by the interests of each individual student, finding a personalized strategy to make learning fun! I work together with my students and their families to establish mutual goals and we acheive them through learning techniques that keep students engaged, interested, and motivated. I offer a well-rounded experience that establishes strong fundimentals in techinique and quality of sound production. To develop technical proficiency and an understanding of lyrical phrasing, I have intermediate and advanced woodwind students work out of the Klose, Ferling, and Rose etude books. Read More

I was honored to serve over 500 students by enriching their arts education, and was inspired daily by their creativity, enthusiasm, and individualism. I began studying the clarinet at age 8, and graduated from the Eastman School of Music in May of 2017. I have had the opportunity to study at the Brevard Music Center and the Aspen Music Festival, where I performed both with student and faculty orchestras. Prior to beginning my collegiate studies, I was fortunate to take part in the inaugural year of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States through Carnegie Hall's Weill Education Institute.
