While studying primarily with Ben Toth and Tom Kolor, she has worked with a number of other teachers specializing in different areas. This has given her a diverse knowledge in world music knowledge and playing abilities. Notable teachers include Joe Galiota (African drumming), Shane Shanahan (Middle Eastern hand drums), Rogerio Boccato (Brazilian hand drums and samba), and Dave Samuels (Caribbean Jazz). Secondary classical percussion instruction was provided by Al Lepak (timpani), John Bacon (drum set), and Michael Burritt (marimba).Though primarily a percussionist, Melanie is also an active violinist and vocalist. She held the principal second violin position with the UB Symphony Orchestra and frequently performs in small ad hoc ensembles for weddings and parties. She sang in two contemporary a cappella groups: her collegiate group Vocal Explosion! and the Hartford Wailers, a CASA League group based in Hartford, CT. She also was a member of the Hartt Chorale for 3 years.
I have been teaching music privately since 2005, as well as acting as musical coach for Solo and Ensemble contests.
My teaching experience varies for each of the instruments I instruct. I began teaching private lessons for guitar in 2004. My voice instruction began in 2009, and the rest of the listed instruments I began to teach in 2012. I believe consistent daily practice is essential for improvement in my students, and encourage my students to log their practice time. In the words of my professor Todd Woodbury, "You do not become a master from what you do within these lessons. You become great by how much effort you put into the application of my guidance through your own practice." I cannot make you the performer you want to be. I can only guide you through the process. This is why I am always excited to bring on a new student. Each student I have worked with holds a special place with me. I strive for those key moments when my student comes to a new musical understanding.
I use a variety of readers and workbooks, depending on the instrument. I believe in creating a curriculm that students will enjoy and want to play. I usually includes technical students, excerpts and music relevent to the students.
As long as I have been playing ive been teaching. I actually surpassed my music teachers in elementary middle and high school and taught myself much of what I know through materials avialable to me at the school. I taught my recorder teacher how read and play the alto recorder and read bass clef. From then I had multiple teaching oppotunities such as youth groups, adult worship bands and private lessons. I telll anybody who is serious about learning music and instruments that time put in is a key component of succeeding while having fun at the same time. My goal is to teach according to my students needs, everybody is unique and learns in their own way. I teach people of all ages and lookfard to exploring the music word with you.

Children generally begin to learn the clarinet at age 7 or 8. We suggest this age because the student needs to be able to hold the instrument correctly and support its weight. More importantly, students fingers need to be the right size to play instrument, and the child needs to have enough lung capacity to support the sound of this instrument.
In home clarinet lessons are extremely convenient for parents and students alike. Studying in home is no different than studying in a studio. Lessons are generally once a week.
Our teachers create a custom lesson plan for each student studying clarinet. Clarinet lessons are useful for many students taking band or woodwinds during school. They will focus on how to prepare the instrument for playing, how to hold the clarinet, how to read music, and common musical styles which use the clarinet.
Many of our adult clarinet students are complete beginners, while others haven't played their instrument in over 10 years. We also have teachers who can work with more advanced students looking to take their skills in both advanced classical repertoire and/or jazz improvisation to the next level. The teachers in our network have proven methods to get you the results you desire.
Students can purchase a wooden or plastic clarinet for their use. Wooden clarinets are more durable and longer lasting. Most clarinets will come with a sturdy case. We suggest that students visit a local music store for tips on buying a clarinet, as clarinets come in different sizes and types. Prices and quality will vary. A clarinet kit comes with the bell, the lower joint, the upper joint, and barrel. A mouthpiece is also a necessary purchase.

Henry has been a great piano teacher since I started lessons about a month ago, and he is helping me realize a lifelong dream. He is patient, plays beautifully, is easy to learn from and a very nice person. I took lessons as a child for a year or so, but never followed up over the years. Very knowledgeable on every aspect of music theory. I listen to recording artists playing various classical pieces, Dan's playing is much like a recording artist's playing. Always on time. Travis is the greatest. He knows his music and how to teach it. He gives you time to learn, but will not allow student time to get lazy. I know he teaches all age groups. Young pre-teens to us old folks 78 years young. I have been taking lessons from him since early December 2014. He is a true professional. You can't go wrong with him.

We value Chelsea for the quality of her lessons, but also for the flexibility of her schedule. She has worked around family vacations, impromptu summer camps and the upcoming school year. Emily is better prepared to start middle school band this year due to flute lessons from Chelsea and we plan to continue the lessons for the foreseeable future.

Darrell is A-Maz-Ing! He demands results from his students and therefore results come quickly. The time he spends teaching is intense and packed with great instruction. He is a tough teacher but offers lots of valuable instruction that is applicable for music as well as life in general. I highly recommend Darrell if you are ready for results!

Giorgi has made learning cello even more fun. From the sympathetic, "It is hard" to the precise, "Be careful about the curve of the thumb" he has strengthened learning in every lesson, without being overwhelming. He started playing a little duet on only the 3rd lesson or so, which made me feel, even as a beginner, that I'm already starting to make (occasionally screachy) music. He has suggested a variety of drills and practice techniques which have also sped up the process a lot. And he has a good sense of humor and surprising amount of patience.

Steve gets you started right away with songs but also goes into music theory and reading music which adds to understanding and appreciation of the music. He is very approachable and you can tell that he absolutely loves music and teaching. It is hard not to be excited about the process of learning with Steve. If you are considering lessons I highly recommend Steve for any level of student.

Laura is a fabulous teacher. She explains concepts to me using concrete examples so that I can understand changes that I need to make to my posture, breathing, phrasing, etc. She makes warm-up exercises fun, and she's got a great sense of humor over all. Her teaching style is collaborative, more egalitarian (she respects what I already know and meets me at my level), tailored to my particular interests and strengths, and I always look forward to our lessons!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
