Developing those skills early in musical development predisposes a student to succeed. The routine that works best for the student will prove itself over time depending on the student. It may be to work one way for one student but not so much for another student. For more advanced students, I will help them explore their particular interests, introduce them to traditional repertoire, and for jazz/rock/pop students, aid them in the process of transcribing the music they love, which benefits their vocabulary as well as their ears.
