Hello! I am a professional clarinetist and passionate teacher. I am a teacher with 15 years of experience. My main goal is to inspire creativity and a lifelong love for the clarinet and music. I studied in Dallas and Boston. I have performed with different ensembles in the Boston area in orchestra, chamber music, new music, pit orchestras ensembles. Currently, I serve as the principal clarinetist with the Boston Chamber Symphony as well as the second clarinet of the Cape Ann Symphony. My principal teachers were Ricardo Morales and Jonathan Cohler and my father.
My teaching experience started as a clarinet instructor in an after school program with students from 5th to 12th grade. I have taught for 15 years in the after school music program system in addition to maintaining a private clarinet studio with students of different ages and skill levels. It has been very rewarding to witness my students excelling in their musical journey. I truly enjoy preparing students for their recitals, competitions, districts, community orchestras or band performances or just getting to the next level of playing. My students consistently earn spots in the MMEA district and all-state ensembles and the many youth orchestras in the Boston area, including every level of orchestra/wind ensemble at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School.
I create my own custom lesson plan or materials for each student. One of the most important aspects of clarinet playing is developing a good sound; therefore, working towards a solid foundation of the fundamentals is essential. After acquiring a basic foundation it is time to make some music! I usually suggest pieces or repertoire according to the student level but also ask the student to pick a piece/music of their choice. Most of my students are generally preparing for district auditions or concerts in their respective orchestras, bands or community ensembles.
Every person is different and unique, each individual has their own journey to take in finding their own voice. It is my goal to provide my students the information and guidance they need along their journey to allow their musical voice to become fully expressed through the clarinet! At the hear of my teaching is a holistic, student-centered approach to music education. Whether you are just beginning your musical journey of refining advanced skills, my goal is to nurture not just technical growth, but creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love of music.
