Instruments: Clarinet Music

I strive for clarity, focus, and direction in my teaching without stifling the student's own creativity. My lessons prove to be demanding, but calm and constructive. I ensure that students understand the topics discussed, and do not proceed beyond until they obtain a genuine grasp and internalization. The time for which it takes different students to process a new concept varies greatly. As such, I pace lessons based upon each individual student. Read More

I create my own custom lesson plan or materials for each student. One of the most important aspects of clarinet playing is developing a good sound; therefore, working towards a solid foundation of the fundamentals is essential. After acquiring a basic foundation it is time to make some music! I usually suggest pieces or repertoire according to the student level but also ask the student to pick a piece/music of their choice. I do not have a set typical method I use for all my students because everyone is different. I begin with assessing a new student to find what their goals are and their commitment level is. I do not shy away from books, I do indeed enjoy working out of the Hal Leonard collection because I appreciate the step by step structure. This may apply less to guitar, however, if the student's primary ambitions are to learn songs by Green Day or The Beatles, etc. Read More

I am a great believer in the importance of a guided warmup routine and have developed a practical method for students to acquire facility with all of their scales and arpeggios in all the keys with various articulations in a logical and efficient way using standard materials. This is backed up with a "saxophone curriculum" to bring a student from beginning stages all the way to solo recitals at a college level. Read More

Every student is different and has their own taste in music. I hope to help every student find the same joy in playing music as they do in their listening. This requires two important aspects: development of technique/facility on one's instrument, and a sense of acheiving one's personal musical goals. I try to give every student basic exercises to work on to develop facility on their given instrument, but I tailor those exercises towards music that the student has expressed interest in learning.
