I'm a professional jazz saxophonist and composer who has lived in New York and performed around the world for 15 years. I began playing sax when I was 9 years old and quickly developed an interest in jazz. I started playing my first gigs at around 14 and decided to devote my life to the saxophone and music. I received a Bachelor of Music from NYU in jazz saxophone performance. In 2018, I graduated with B.A. in Saxophone Performance with an emphasis in Jazz Studies at California State University, Long Beach. I began teaching in 2012 when I was awarded the Graduate Assistant position at Western Michigan University. As a G.A., I was responsible for teaching non-music majors saxophone lessons, theory and ear-training, as well as coaching ensembles. I also taught flute and clarinet at Paramount Charter Academy in Kalamazoo, Michigan to middle school students. If a new student is not a total beginner, I will ask them to play their favorite song (or one of their favorites if they have trouble choosing just one). After their performance, I ask them what they liked about how they played. Its important for students to always be aware of what they do well.
