Beginning students, especially children, need more guidance and structure to the lessons to get started, but its still important to keep them interested , engaged and having fun, so Ill typically integrate lessons on basic technique with songs that children already know. My favorite books to use for students are the Rubank and Klose methods along with the Albert Scale book. My curriculum is created personally for each student based on their needs, progress rate, and level. No matter what the age, I begin with long tones, which really help to build endurance and control of air. Proper usage of air is top priority with wind instruments.
