I started teaching way back in 2001, my first year of college, at a music festival in Vermont. It was a group clarinet & sax class, and it was so much fun! I gradually realized as college went by and I began teaching more and more, that while enjoyed performing, teaching was my real passion! I have been teaching both the clarinet and the piano full-time since 2007, and consider that my passion and my profession. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. The first lesson i assess the student's ability - whether they can play, read music, and what kind of music they like. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their level. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
Instruments: Piano Clarinet Music
I have been teaching clarinet and piano since 2019. For each student, I focus on developing healthy practice habits (physically mentally) that allow them to be efficient and rewarded by their time spent with the instrument. I help students build a strong foundation of fundamentals so they are able to be successful working on more advanced literature. I'm always excited to help students at any level explore music as a means of learning about and expressing themselves, while gaining and improving upon this new skill. Read More

My teaching began in the first year of my undergraduate degree. I was hired on as an adjunct to coach sectionals for a small school who later went on to get high marks on their marching assessment that year. Following that, I taught lessons to those same students. These students were able to place high in honor bands. I also have experience with teaching students who were starting on day one of playing. Watching a student find the joy in playing music, makes my job immensely rewarding. I therefore am a positive teacher who tries to celebrate the best about every performance - including sight reading and scales! It’s also important to set realistic goals for every lesson and achievable practice goals between lessons. Since every student learns at a different pace these are understandably individual goals. Some students are inspired by achieving a goal and some are inspired by playing particularly music, so I try to tailor my lessons and goals to them. Read More
