I teach in a style that helps children isolate problem areas, so that they can practice specific excerpts they are struggling with. Each lesson, I will prepare 4 sections for my students: warm-up, review, learning new music, and questions/smart tips time. I believe fundamental techniques are super important for students to advance their music. I also pay attention to what students are interested in. The teacher should come up with a teaching method that will balance the different needs of the students. I grew up in the Washington DC area playing Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, and Baritone Sax. I attended Walt Whitman High School and was a member of its award winning Jazz Ensemble as a Tenor Saxophonist. In 2003 I was selected as the lead Alto Saxophonist for the Maryland All-State Jazz Ensemble. I went on to study Jazz at Emory University in Atlanta under Gary Motley and E.J. Hughes. Read More

Upon graduating from the Univerity of Maryland, I taught elementary band and strings at 3 different public schools in Maryland. In addition, I taught privately in three locations, including a Music Arts Center, instructing beginning through advanced students, both children and adults. I relish finding ways in which students relate most to music and love that everybody is different.
