Instruments: Clarinet

I have been teaching since the summer after my freshman year of college. I knew that I wanted to gain experience teaching private lessons early in my career, so I contacted middle and high school band programs in the Dallas Metroplex and slowly began building a teaching studio. By the following year, I had a full studio with students of all levels. After finishing my coursework at Southern Methodist University, I completed a semester of student teaching at Berkner High School and Liberty Junior High in Richardson, TX. Read More

I encourage my students to be technically proficient, musically literate, and good listeners. Having these core fundamentals down prepares my students to be able to play any style of music they choose. Lessons are always customized to fit the musical preferences of the student.  I use my preferred method books but am able to incorporate the books the student already owns within the lesson plans.  I encourage the use of technology such as smartphones, iPads, and play-a-longs as teaching aids. Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet

I began teaching young, beginner students roughly fifteen years ago. This progressed to teaching collegiate saxophonists while at the University of Wyoming. I understand that everyone student learns differently, and I'm comfortable teaching in whichever way is most helpful and beneficial to the student. I am most experienced in classical saxophone, though I am capable in teaching beginning jazz and swing. Whether it's basic fundamentals to virtuosic repertoire - I am able to teach and refine your skill. Read More

Weekly 45 minute lessons focus on tone production, technique, theory, and musicianship through exercises, etudes, solos, and duets.  Students are always welcome to bring in music they are interested in working on, whether for school, contest, or just for fun. I welcome students of all ages and abilities who are inquisitive, persistent, hard working, and who put forth their best efforts during lessons and weekly practice. Though there are natural progressions to learning an instrument that I can set for a student, I always want to know what the student hopes to gain from studying the clarinet. Read More

Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet

I have always enjoyed helping students play better.  My private teaching career began in 1978 and continues to the present.  It is always more fun for the student it they understand why something is important and what the long term benefits are for them.  No question is questioned.  We enjoy exploring the Language of Music and the requirements of their instrument.  Additionally,  I have developed a method for addressing Performance Anxiety that has proven effective in any performance situation. Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet

There are lots of great teaching tools and methods available, and once I have an understanding of a student's current ability level and what they want to work on, I can make recommendations. For wind players, Essential Elements provides a good way to get started on an instrument. I look for ways to incorporate different styles of music from classical to jazz to pop music in addition to the important fundamentals you will learn from a method book. Read More

My methods vary on the student and subject. Beginning students will typically focus more on technical pieces of music to improve on certain aspects of a few pieces to perform. More advanced students will still practice technical parts of their music, but less time will be spent on it during a lesson. Advanced level students will spend more time on repertoire and performance. The more advanced a student gets, the more I expect them to practice outside of lessons and apply their newly learned technical skills into their music on their own. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
