Instruments: Clarinet
For beginners, I like to establish a steady embrochure and hold on the clarinet. It is important to establish these crucial elements. I also strongly believe in scales right off the bat and try to integrate these in an interesting way, along with some beginning solo repertoire. Past that, I love getting my intermediate students started on weekly or bi-weekly etudes. For the more serious student, I base it off of what they are currently trying to achieve, such as upcoming auditions, orchestral repertoire, competitions, summer festival prep, etc. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Saxophone Flute Clarinet Recorder Piccolo Music
I have been teaching private lessons for about eight years. My experience teaching in different classrooms helps me work with a large variety of students with just as much variety of skill levels. The most important part of music is connecting with the pieces you play. I provide students with the opportunity to influence certain parts of repertoire that they learn. They may pick a few pieces or songs while I help them build the skills they need to attain for advancement. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
Although my collegiate educational background is not primarily in music, I have vast knowledge of music theory, and understand that each student has individual needs. My biggest method that has the most success, no matter the subject of training is "I Do, We Do, You Do". When teaching a new musical concept, it is most important for a student to have an understanding of the principle. I would explain the concept, and give an example by demonstrating the concept (I Do), however many times the student needs me to do so, and they would practice the concept with me (We Do), and once they feel comfortable trying the concept on their own, I would have them demonstrate the concept for me until mastery is achieved (You Do). Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I have been teaching privately for about four years. Most recently, I was awarded the Graduate Teaching Position at Bemont University for my final semester. I was in charge of weekly instruction for seven students, conducting both classical and commercial seminars, and leading Jazz Band and Small Group. I make it a point to have a healthy balance between the student's interests as a player as well as what I feel are essential qualities inherent in the instrument's performance practice. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I started teaching in 2009 in Mississippi. I taught 6th grade band (beginner), 7th grade band, and high school. I taught in Mississippi for 5 years and just recently moved to Tennessee. While teaching, I've given private lessons to some of my students after school and to some students who did not attend my school. I always encourage doing a recital, entering competitions, and continuing on to college playing their instrument. I love motivating students and challenging them to be the best and nothing less.
