I started teaching privately when I was in high school. I taught just a couple of kids and found it fun. I was a little busy to teach in college as I was concentrating on learning to be a professional saxophonist. My teachers include Doug Heath, Bob Seligson, Terry Autry, and Todd Goranson. I was able to learn at a relatively high level in school and continued that through grad school. Read More

Since most of the students I teach are members of a band program, I make sure that most of my lessons are based on what is being learned at school. Planning an individual practice schedule is imperative for their success but at the same time make it enjoyable so the student will want to practice. Constant acknowledgement of their progress each lesson the student more eager to learn. Even though the school program may require students to learn from specific material, I also tailor instruction to music they enjoy performing. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet
Clarinet: Any beginning band method book, Baermann, Klose, Voxman. At advanced levels I will use appropriate repertoire and advanced method books tailored to the student. Saxophone/flute: Any beginning band method book or standard beginning to intermediate woodwind book. Appropriate repertoire. Piano: I use most beginning methods, including Alfred, Bastien, Piano Adventures (Faber), and other standard piano methods. I use those appropriate to age, goals, and learning style (for instance, chord methods are sometimes better for adults). Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
For my beginning students who are children, I typically start with Standard Of Excellence. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I also include ear training by having my students play note/ notes after me in a Call and Response maner. Read More

Understanding the student's interest would be my priority goal. Helping students not just playing the instrument, but also loving it, so they will cherish the time with their instruments. Having fun while learning music is always my target in teaching music. Students and parents are welcome to provide the music they would love to learn. That should keep their attention in having fun. At the same time, other-focused material would be assigned, so the students will maintain a great foundation in playing music. Read More

I've taught the clarinet since my high school days, offering lessons on how to play and how to march to my fellow band members as well as others in my neighborhood and surrounding cities. I did the same in the Marines to my fellow Marines as well those in high schools near my duty station. I take the time to understand what my students want to accomplish and set short and long term goals while having fun and motivating my students to learn more. Read More
Instruments: Clarinet
My teaching experience started in my senior year of high school. I have taught a variety of ages and levels. From 5th grade to 12th grade I enjoyed all of them! I love to watch my students grow as they take to improve on technique, tone and etc. I give students homework to practice and encourage regular practicing. Even if it's 20 minutes a day, it's better than nothing. The more students practice, the more fun playing the clarinet is! Read More
