I have served on the board of two different local community bands. I continue to play in a community band and also volunteer my time to play on local shows for the communty theaters. Teaching music is all about the student and sharing the passion and skills that only music can provide with the student. My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. I have enjoyed every moment of teaching music and have taken so much from the experiences that I've had. My goal with all students is that they enjoy learning, become self-motivated to practice, and consider their musical abilities as a gift which they can choose to share with others whenever they feel comfortable to do so. I have experience using a variety of method books and can easily recommend appropriate materials. I am originally from Austin, TX, but moved to Colorado in order to pursue a masters degree in performance and pedagogy at the University of Colorado Boulder. I have performed throughout Colorado as a saxophonist, clarinetist and flutist. I love listening to all kinds of music including jazz, classical, folk and funk. For younger students, I'll usually use their band music or band methods to supplement class work, as well as offering my own exercises to strengthen fundamentals.
