I teach from the traditional method.  I use the String Builder as it give the student a step by step method on how to learn the notes and how to understand the notes on the page.  This method teaches you 2 ideas simultaneously.  You read music, and play at the same time.  There are many methods of teaching, and I am aware of all of them, but I am very successful with the Traditional method and the String Builder Method Book. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, its important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. From a family of musicians, I started playing the cello at the age of 5. After being a cellist for the Conservatory of Quebec Orchestra in Saguenay, I switched to percussion. I recorded the Flight of the Bumble Bee for the first time at age 14 and became a symphonic percussionist later with the National Art Center Orchestra of Canada as well as for the Ottawa Symphony while playing for the Starlighters and Savoy Swing Band at the Penguin cafe in Ottawa. For beginning students I like to begin with a combination of Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and Suzuki Method books. I find Essential Elements to be useful for learning the fundamentals of playing the instrument and music theory. However, Suzuki offers the ability for students to quickly play solo repertoire. I also incorporate learning and understanding scales for the purpose of learning fingering patterns and intonation. As students progress, I also find Rick Monney's Positions Pieces extremely valuable. Read More

Having the basic knowledge in music and techniques in playing are very important tools to have as a performer. I typically start with the Suzuki method for beginners and intermediates. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce a solo repertoire or other music pieces appropriate to the student’s interest. I also use other exercise books as part of the lesson to improve the student’s sight reading, ear training, and technique skills on the instrument. Read More

I began my journey to become a Suzuki teacher in 2021 and can teach levels 1-10 which means I can assist students from the beginner level to the advanced level. The Suzuki method has taught me that talent isn't innate and can be taught - with enough time and effort any student can achieve the level they wish.
