I use the Suzuki method with all students, however, supplemental material is also used as the student ages and moves through the repertoire. As the student begins to explore their instrument and experiment with different styles, techniques, and repertoire I help guide the student along their musical journey and teach the student the necessary skills to successfully perform/play the piece. For beginning students I like to begin with a combination of Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and Suzuki Method books. I find Essential Elements to be useful for learning the fundamentals of playing the instrument and music theory. However, Suzuki offers the ability for students to quickly play solo repertoire. I also incorporate learning and understanding scales for the purpose of learning fingering patterns and intonation. I typically use a style of traditional classical instruction. Including scales, studies, and repertoire. I teach sight reading and ear training. I use memorization, and critical listening skills.
