Teaching has been my profession since before my college days, when I begun by teaching guitar lessons to classmates. Since college, it has been my primary occupation. I lead by example as a musician, and I encourage regular quality practice and cultivate an attitude of discipline and a drive to greatness. A cross-discipline in music is my primary approach to teaching, and I make a point of educating my students in how to communicate with other musicians. Read More

It is extremely important that students not only have fun during lessons, but that they also feel challenged. Every lesson is a small step out of the comfort zone - it may or may not be noticed, but the step is take none-the-less. The lessons I teach are inclusive and may include snippets from other subjects - such as history, science, or math. I find that really engaging the student's thought process gives them a more open perspective to approach music with. Read More

I started teaching regularly in college. For 7 years, I have always had some semblance of students whether they be private or part of an afterschool program. I like working closely with each students, getting each of them to branch out and challenge themselves. It is through this method that I find what really interests them and move to pursue that interest. I teach elementary age students who can barely hold a cello to students of my own age. Read More

My teaching style is a combination of Suzuki method and traditional method. Having learned with the traditional method, I feel it is vital and extremely important for students to learn to read music from the point at which they start reading books and words, this is typically at age 5. For students under age 5 we begin learning everything by ear, once they start reading we introduce reading notes. I'm passionate about having a parent present for every lesson as it is extremely important that a parent or caretaker learn the material so they can be the teacher at home during the week for practice sessions. El Sistema relies heavily on the buddy system, which means that as I learned and was taking lessons from cellists who werent that much older than me, I was also teaching lessons and translating for masterclasses by the time I was 12. I teach anyone who shares the passion for cello (or violin, or chamber music). I tend to attract many adults who always wanted to play the cello, but postponed it, and finally decided its now or never. Similarly, I teach a number of adults who played through adolescence, but quit, and now want to return to playing. Ive been teaching since I was a teen-ager, and fortunately, multiple decades later, Im still cherishing every student, every moment of music making. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
