I am a 32 year old musician. I grew up playing the cello, starting at age 5. I picked up other instruments as I grew older and eventually went to a conservatory. I have performed in a wide variety of contexts throughout my life including professional symphonies and popular music ensembles. Samuel Guest. That same year I joined Meremblum which comprised of 3 levels of orchestras. Beginning was Pathfinder, then Pioneer and then ultimately Junior Symphony. My very first solo was with Pathfinder at the age of 12 under the direction of Mr. George Roden. I successfully joined the other two orchestras up until I was 17. I then auditioned for Interlochen Music Camp in Traverse City, Michigan at the age of 15. For beginning students I like to begin with a combination of Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and Suzuki Method books. I find Essential Elements to be useful for learning the fundamentals of playing the instrument and music theory. However, Suzuki offers the ability for students to quickly play solo repertoire. I also incorporate learning and understanding scales for the purpose of learning fingering patterns and intonation.
