In 2013, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from George Washington University, where I studied a range of genres (including jazz, classical, and musical theatre) and instruments (voice, piano, flute, and even some latin percussion). My lessons are pretty straight forward. We begin with understanding body posture and alignment for singing. Once in good posture, I encourage breath flow while maintaining good alignment. A good exercise for breath control and release is taking a deep breath in 10 seconds, holding the expansion or suspension for 10 seconds and then releasing (NOT PUSHING) the breath in an s sound, all while maintaining a tall and expanded posture. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with blend of methods based on the game form of learning, in which all the appropriate to the child's age skills are acquired through the fun techniques and songs. For piano lessons I prefer use the Alfred's piano books or Hal Leonard's books, for voice lessons I use the methods of classical singing school, Set Riggs method and pop & jazz techniques, it depends on the style, that student prefers to learn. I approach teaching by focusing on the student. I find out what they need and want first. We set realistic goals together and I give them the tools to help them reach their goals. I don't want my students to be entirely dependent on me. I like to give them exercises to do on their own in between lessons so that time doesn't go to waste and they can see quicker improvement with their own practicing. Read More

So understanding each student's gift is paramount in guiding them through certain fundamentals. My philosophy has been to not tamper with the raw talent but instead, grow it. For beginning students, I focus on building a solid foundation of vocal technique (including: breath, resonance, posture, register, and diction). We build this foundation through singing pieces that the student is familiar with and lots of vocal exercises. At the same time, I like to introduce basic music theory concepts. I typically start with Alfred's Basic Piano Prep Course Theory. Upon grasping and understanding fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire from different styles of music. Read More
