For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I am a performer and educator based in Long Beach, CA. I received my Bachelor's of Music in Cello Performance at the Bob Cole Conservatory of 2021. I have been very passionate about teaching cello since I started in 2016. I have performed in several venues in Southern California as a soloist, as well as in orchestral and chamber ensembles. Generally, for my beginning students, I assign a regiment of short pieces and technical etudes from a variety of method books. I find this to be an effective way to build technique while also cultivating musicality. My style is fun, joking around, but firm and serious.  I expect that my students be prepared for every lesson, but to also have fun at the same time.  I don't want to be stogy, or boring.  So I like to see my students smiling and laughing, but learning and enjoying their instruments.  The more the undesrtand their instruments and laugh the more they will enjoy playing that will lead to more technical advances.
