I am a cellist, composer, and instructor currently based in Long Beach. I graduated from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) in 2010, and received my Bachelor's degree from Baldwin-Wallace University in 2015, studying Cello Performance with Regina Mushabac and Music Composition with Dr. Clint Needham.  I've been actively teaching for nearly 35 years. Teaching children as well as adults. I graduated from Drake University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Music Education. I use a developmentally appropriate approach for preschoolers based on the Music Together curriculum. For ages 6 to 8, I offer Musical Safari, an overview of many instruments with basis in theory, solfege and reading, helping children and parents make the right choice of instruments based on the student's interest. I began my journey to become a Suzuki teacher in 2021 and can teach levels 1-10 which means I can assist students from the beginner level to the advanced level. The Suzuki method has taught me that talent isn't innate and can be taught - with enough time and effort any student can achieve the level they wish. For beginning students, I like to start with the beginnig Suzuki books, and I incorporate many Suzuki methods into my teaching style. As an accompaniment to Suzuki, I also use Klengal's Technical Studies for the Violoncello, Vol. 1 in order to solidify a solid understanding of scales and hand positions. Once a student demonstrates appropriate dexterity, I begin to introduce solo repetoire that they would like to prepare for studio performances and any other pieces that they have an interest in playing. I've tought consistently sincen then and have found that no matter what their age or music experience is, everyone can learn to play and enjoy an instrument.
