I am a cellist and recent graduate of the New England Conservatory in Boston. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Virginia Tech, where I developed passions for chamber and contemporary classical music. I brought these interest to Boston, and have performed throughout New England in chamber music series, conductorless ensembles, and orchestras. While studying at NEC, I was also a musical storytelling fellow, and developed multiple programs of original songs and stories to perform at elementary schools and children's venues throughout the city. I have exceptional experience in teaching little children learning their first instruments to upper grade students who are serious about studying music in college. My teaching experience is quite varied, with ages and subject material. My earliest teaching experiences were mentorship programs in my local youth symphonies as a high schooler, and since then I've taught in before and after-school programs, private and group lessons, orchestra sectionals, chamber music, and classroom ear training. Through my experience in teaching and chamber music, I really try to curtail expectations and goals to a student's individual wants from music making, so that students can feel proportionally challenged and confident to the amount of time they'd like to put in. I have been teaching group and private lessons since 2021, and I have experience working with students of all ages and backgrounds in both virtual and in-person lesson formats. As part of my appointment as a Teaching Fellow through NEC's Community Performances Partnerships program, I am currently a Teaching Assistant at the Conservatory Lab Charter School in Dorchester, MA, where I work with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade cello students on technique and music-reading, and through this fellowship and other NEC classes, I have received training in various pedagogical practices for private teaching. Also performing in concerts gives them goals to work for so I try to have my students to perform at some assisted living places and more several times a year and the more they perform usually the better they improve. It can be encouraging to see that others make mistakes too and that noone is perfect. I like students to learn how to read as soon as they can, but I honor the suzuki idea that it is good to learn to play the first few pieces by ear so listening does not get lost in learning to read.
