If you are looking to play a style of music but you don't know how to incorporate what you may have previously learned into that style of music, I will automatically show you how you can play piano in that style of music. Once you feel you have a better understanding of what that style of music wants you to play on piano, you will practice on your own and get a better feel for it and you will become a master in that genre, and on the piano in general. I've spent over half my life as a musician and I hope to help you have a lifelong love of music as well! Growing up in Upstate New York, I started on Cello when I was 9, but quickly made the change to Electric and Double Bass. I started my collegiate music education at Nazareth College of Rochester in 2014 as Classical Double Bass major. After a year there I transferred to SUNY Purchase to pursue a degree in Jazz Studies. I am a music instructor, and professional guitarist/perfomer/songwriter based out of New Jersey. I have been teaching professionally since 2006. My goal is to teach to the students needs, and allow them to get whatever they hope to get out of music, be it competence on an instrument, performing, improvisation, reading music, understanding theory...whatever their journey entails. I also put together performance opportunities for my students twice a year. Read More

I have an open approach to teaching guitar, and encourage students to utilize knowledge obtained through my lessons in whatever context they prefer as opposed to gearing them towards a certain style of playing. Much of my own teaching was based in jazz, but I have managed to find myself utilizing much of what I was taught playing in a heavy, shoegazey rock band. The preferences of my students are important to me, and while setting goals for progress is important, it is important to me that students learn at their own pace and move forward on their own initiative. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with simple chords and teach them a few fun songs. If the student is interested in learning how to read music, I will use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance if they are interested in performing live. For adults, I like to find out what they are most interested in, whether it is a specific genre, (jazz/classical) or if they are more interested in learning songs (classic rock/pop/etc.) or songwriting. Ive been teaching private guitar lessons since graduating from NYU Im 2009. My lessons draw upon the music theory concepts that I mastered in college, as well as my extensive experience playing in my own band. I straddle the line between a trained approach and an organic, intuitive approach. You will learn to use music theory as a foundation to fully develop your own style. You need to learn the rules first in order to break the rules! Read More

I definitely believe in realistic goals and I think one of the most important things during learning is that my students properly know what they have to do to be prepare for the next lessons and to achieve the current goal! I also really encourage my students in having a daily and enjoayble instrument practice. I am sure that doing at least 30 minutes technique exercises every day is the best way to feel comfortable with our instrument quickly. Read More
