My day job is in IT, but my passion is music! I picked up a bass guitar at 12 years old and an acoustic guitar at age 15. I became a drummer at age 16. Now I am a seasoned musician, but more important- I am a 40 year old husband and father of 2 boys. I love giving children the knowledge and skills they need to express themselves through music. My musical career has not been glamorous. Read More

I'm a professional educator with a passion for music. I hold a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration from DePaul University, and have studied guitar, mandolin and music theory at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. I've played mandolin and guitar in several stringbands, and currently perform with Chain Station (chainstation.com), based in Denver, CO. Aside from guitar and mandolin, I also play the fiddle and ukulele. Read More

My promise to you is, “If you put in the work, you will be given every opportunity to succeed!” Everyone is different, and as a result, everyone’s individual lesson will be different. Your lessons will be suited to your interests and skill level. People are not the same and all music is not the same, therefor everyone's lesson should not be the same. Maybe you are looking to become a professional, or maybe you’re just looking to have some fun with the guitar and music. Read More

For beginning students i usually start with Hal Leonard's music books to get the fundamentals of music theory down. I also like to integrate learning styles of music and songs that my students want to learn from artists or bands they may like. I find that the best way to ensure a strong connection to the process of leaning is making it fun and creating a game plan for learning based on the individual. Read More

My teaching style is fairly easy going. I don't force unrealistic expectations on students because everyone is learning music for a different reason. I like to figure out what their reason is and progress accordingly. If it's a young student looking to continue music throughout their school career, I will make sure they learn how to read sufficiently and I will make sure they know how to play with peers by performing with the student as an accompanist. I break my expertise into three different categories, which we can pull from and combine based on the situation. They depend largely on the student's age, experience and interests and are as follows: Music Theory (Piano Only): We explore the mathematics behind music; the elements of scales and modes, how these are used to construct chords and how they relate to one another. Heavily focused on the circle of 5ths/cycle of 4ths. Read More

I am somewhat lenient with my teaching style. I always give every student work to practice and improve upon for their next lesson. However, I am a firm believer that keeping a student's interest in music is best accomplished by allowing them to move at their own pace. I always want my students to be inspired and productive, and I also believe that a student should never feel forced into practicing their craft. Read More
