This is in contrast to other teaching styles which are geared toward focusing on an individuals challenges. For young children I usually use the Suzuki method books for song selection and through those we can focus on the basic fundamentals of positioning and technical development. It is easy to see what needs to be addressed through those first few songs and we can go from there. For older children and adults we can select from a wider variety with input from the student and we can work on whatever technical issues arise based on the level of the student. Read More

For most students, it is important to see where they are musically, regardless of the level, and craft a lesson plan to help them achieve their goals. There will be a balance between musical concepts and repertoire. The deeper we go in learning the song and learning the recording, the more the student will benefit. For young children I focus on learning the instrument, the fundamentals of sound, pitch and chords and keeping it fun and engaging with songs they like. Read More
