Yes for teaching piano I use Nancy and Randall Faber's books. I have used all of them. For guitar and mandolin I generally do not use a "book". As the lessons progress I might introduce a book if that is what is called for. All orchestral instruments call for the structure of a book and I augment that with my own explanations. I love teaching the individual.  My first instructor wanted to know about me, my likes and my goals, and that is the approach I like to take for each student, whether they want to perform live, or need to prepare for a college audition, or anything in between.  I taught a class of children around the age of 6, and an older class as well for a while at a private school in Arkansas.  It was a joy teaching both age groups.  I was able to infuse theory and appreciation into learning songs that they loved.  Read More

These were wonderful opportunities to teach peers and those who have been in the music education field much longer than the four of us. Although teaching large groups is exciting, nothing beats one-on-one lessons with a student. I have had and taught plenty of these lessons for several instruments including flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, french horn, euphonium, tuba, percussion, piano, guitar, and bass guitar.
